This part of the work isn't commissioned. It's where I go when nobody is waiting on a picture.
A lot of it is Anatolia, and mostly the parts people drive through rather than stop in — Çamyayla in Bolu, Abalı Köyü above Sinop, Nallıhan an hour or two out of Ankara, Darende and Gürün, Niksar in Tokat, Kastamonu, Elazığ. Göreme too, though everyone photographs Göreme.
The rest is cities, and usually the same instinct: Cologne and its cathedral, Prague, Vienna, Budapest from under the castle, Sofia, Münster, Bremen, and Crete when the light was better than the plan.
What holds them together isn't the place. It's the hour — blue hour, rain on asphalt, the last twenty minutes before the light goes. I would rather wait for that than fix it afterwards.
Every photograph on this page says where it was taken. Open one and the place is written underneath.
